Steeped in history, this fantastic castle, set in 22 acres of grounds, has been described as the finest Norman building in Britain. Its oldest parts date back to the 12th century although much of what is now visible was built in the 16th century. Look out for the donkey-driven wheel, massive gatehouse and great views from the ramparts.

Every Tuesday and Wednesday during August, there is a Grand Medieval Joust at 11am. Travel back to a time of romance, chivalry and knights in shining armour. Be entertained by musicians, royal falconry and have-a-go activities, including children’s junior jousting. Support your favourite knights as they break lances upon each other in a genuine competition of skill and bravery.

The castle is located above, and to the south of Carisbrooke village centre. There is a car park and Southern Vectis buses on the Medina Tour stop outside the main gate, while route 6 stops nearby.
