We bought our site six years ago, as four and a half acres of weeds, rubble and scrap metal, and have been taming it ever since!
At the front of the site we are developing a herb garden which is now open to the public.
Last year we planted the first half of what will be a twenty metre thyme bank, and a central walkway of 'herbal' shrubs and perennials in a knot of white and purple hyssop.
We currently sell young herbs, at £1.00 each, and last year had more than 60 different varieties. All our herbs are grown naturally, using manure from our own animals as fertiliser.
This herb garden is always open to the public. Small plants are for sale on an honesty table 24 hrs a day. Larger plants, crafts and workshop are open weekends and daily during August.
Editor note - Shorwell is one of several delightful villages in the 'interior' of the Island which are sheltered by the slopes of the downs. In addition to its charming old thatched cottages, it boasts three manor-houses and an ancient church said to date back to the time of Edward III.
